POROBAS
Maliha Mohsin
Austria 2021 | 5 min
"পরবাস (porobas) is a collage made of photographs from Maliha's family albums and recordings of their family members' stories, all of which come together as a history of their family's migration to Sharjah. LETERS FROM THE WALL/ Work-in-progress
A collective atelier film under the direction of Jeff Silva
France 2024 | 8 min
Letters from the Walls is a sensory ethnographic study of Baumettes prison complex in Marseille, filmed in 2019-2020 before its demolition in 2022. Led by filmmaker and anthropologist Jeff Silva (La fabrique des écritures ethnographiques) with students from EHESS, the film captures the physical and emotional remnants of this historic prison. Denied access to prisoners, the filmmakers document the spatial and material traces of life—cells, recreation areas, corridors, classrooms—and focus particularly on the personal letters written by detainees to the chief guard. These letters, found discarded in the ruins, reveal intimate moments of daily struggle and routine requests for basic needs. The film blends these textual fragments with visuals and soundscapes to explore the rhythms of life inside, contributing to broader conversations on incarceration, trauma, and the legacies of France’s carceral system.
Created at La Fabrique des écritures ethnographique, with students from EHESS (Djil ASTIER, Jean AUTARD, Zoé CARLE, Matthieu DEBORDES, Blaise GAZEAU, Ariane GUY, Ambre JOUVE, Mélissa KODITUWAKKU, Véra PANUELA, Lucien ROUX, Jeff SILVA, Thomas VAISSE
VOOL
Piibe Kolka
Estonia 2015 | 8 min
“Vool” studies rhythms and currents between a city and a body. A body that has neglected its social layers for a moment. And a city that reconstitutes these layers again and again. Through an intention and specific pace there's a chance they notice each other. The film is a collaboration with butoh dancer Vangeline and a result of shared movement practices and discussions in New York City between 2013 and 2015.

THE MEMORY OF GLITCH
Suzanne Schaaf
Netherlands 2023 | 28 min
This short film explores the entanglements of smoke and pixels, trees and humans, loss and recovery. When the filmmaker dives into a burnt forest in Oregon, U.S.A., memory and place begin to unravel. Her voice shares personal reflections on loss while glimpses of bare soil, rock formations and mountains form new horizons. A montage of found footage, Google Maps explorations, and material recorded during fieldwork form a new narrative. The film plays with ideas of fiction and reality and questions our relationship with the on- and offline environments we inhabit.
